These Celebrities Support Elizabeth Warren As Their 2020 Candidate

Elizabeth Warren might have missed a beat in the Iowa caucuses, coming out behind candidates like Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, but that’s not going to stop her. Warren is certainly one candidate who has only continued to pick up steam, despite the persistence of critics and naysayers. Now, ahead of the New Hampshire Primary, she is gearing up for a fight to the Oval Office.

But, none of this campaigning amid a heated race is for a lack of huge support — Warren is confident she has lots of endorsements behind her, and used time during her speech to acknowledge and thank some of the most influential and important supporters of her campaign: women. For the duration of her campaign, Warren has consistently championed women’s issues and put them at the forefront of her platform–drafting plans to bolster economic equity for women of color, extending labor rights, protecting abortion and reproductive rights and more.

Beyond that, plenty of big names are getting behind her to say, as Meghan Rapinoe first said, LFG. Ahead, we’ve rounded up all the celebrity endorsements that want to see Warren in the White House in 2020.

Amy Schumer

Jonathan Van Ness

In an emotional interview in September of 2019, Van Ness revealed that he’s HIV-positive and how it’s helped him realize his responsibility to support others living with HIV. “That’s why I’m endorsing Senator Elizabeth Warren for president,” the Queer Eye star and non-binary icon said.

During the interview, Van Ness talked about his difficulty trying to get medication, which made him want to support Warren because she has a plan to make health care a human right and not for profit. Since then, he’s began campaigning for her and has made social media videos with her campaign to say why he’s part of the LFG team.Photo: Jeff Spicer/BFC/Getty Images.

Scarlett Johansson

September was a popular month for Warren endorsements — which is when Marriage Story star Scarlett Johansson hopped aboard the Warren Express as well. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Johansson said that while others warned her it was too early to pledge support for any one candidate, there was a clear choice for her.

Johansson said she was more than ready to back Warren, also citing her commitment to plans as an appeal. “She feels like someone who is thoughtful and progressive but realistic. It’s not like her campaign is making these crazy, outlandish promises that seem impossible to reach. There’s a strategy there,” Johansson explained. Along with Amy Schumer, FEC records show that Johansson has also donated to Warren to help strengthen her campaign.Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage.

Megan Rapinoe

The USWNT all star is the person who can be credited with what’s now Warren’s campaign slogan: LFG.

In December of 2019, Rapinoe made her goals for her presidential pick clear, tweeting, “I’m proud to endorse Elizabeth Warren today, for being bold, for being real, for listening to ALL of us, and for being prepared to navigate the unique challenges we face today as a country.” Rapinoe included a video of a phone call between her and Warren, in which they talk about equity and creating big structural change.Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

With Chrissy Teigen’s social media following and her husband’s legendary music career, any candidate would be lucky to snag the support of such influential people. But this celebrity couple’s endorsement went to the (Wo)man with the Plan, Elizabeth Warren.

In an interview for Vanity Fair‘s December issue, the couple hesitated to talk 2020 at first when asked. Then, Legend decided to throw caution to the wind. “My favorite — I’m going to say it, we’ll break news today — is Elizabeth Warren. She’s the best candidate running today and she comes at it with joy and with sincerity and with a wealth of knowledge and experience.” Teigen chimed in to agree, saying, “I love Elizabeth Warren.” Photo: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic.

Melissa Etheridge

Grammy winner and LGBTQ+ activist Melissa Etheridge made her support for Warren known via Twitter. “I am officially pledging my support for @ewarren
for her candidacy for president! #ElizabethWarren,” Etheridge tweeted out last October, including a graphic, where she mentioned that Warren “understands the LGBTQ community and the needs we have.” Photo: Alison Buck/Getty Images.

Constance Wu

In January, actress Constance Wu endorsed Warren along with over 100 other Asian American and Pacific Islander celebrities and public figures, including Celeste Ng and Rabia Chaudry who are all a part of AAPIs with Warren. The group noted that Warren’s stance on issues that are important to the Asian American community like education, immigration, and more are some of the top reasons they support the candidate.

In the statement, the group said they “agree unreservedly with their assessment and assertion that Senator Warren’s experience, policies and character — and her support of broad inclusion, her profound empathy and her openness to input and change — are unique among the 2020 candidates.” Photo: Leon Bennett/FilmMagic.
